About the tour

Discover the Wonders of the Reykjanes Peninsula

Embark on an exhilarating journey through the Reykjanes Peninsula, where you can hike to the captivating new lava fields if conditions allow. Your adventure begins with a drive to the trailhead, where you’ll assess the feasibility of the hike. If weather and safety conditions are favorable, you’ll embark on a hike of approximately 1 to 1.5 hours each way, covering a total distance of 20 km (10 km in each direction). The well-marked trail offers a rewarding experience, with the entire hike taking around 3 to 4 hours if you choose to complete the round trip.

Should the hike be possible, you’ll then spend an additional 5 to 6 hours exploring the region’s other captivating features. If hiking to the new lava isn’t feasible, alternative activities will be offered to ensure a memorable experience in this stunning landscape.

About Reykjanes

The Reykjanes Peninsula is a blend of adventure and serenity, showcasing dramatic volcanic landscapes, geothermal marvels, and a rugged coastline famed for its stunning sunsets. This area is home to some of Iceland’s most iconic cultural and recreational sites, including the world-famous Blue Lagoon.

A Rare Opportunity to Witness Nature’s Power

This tour provides a rare opportunity to observe the transformative power and beauty of nature. You’ll explore the large-scale changes brought about by the Sundhnúkur, Fagradalsfjall, and Meradalir eruptions. The region has experienced significant volcanic activity, with each eruption contributing to the evolving landscape. The 2021 Fagradalsfjall eruption, followed by subsequent eruptions each year until 2024, has continually reshaped the area. The region remains geologically active, offering a dynamic environment that is always changing.

During the tour, your guide will provide insights into the eruptions on the Reykjanes Peninsula, highlighting areas of interest as weather and safety conditions permit. You’ll observe fissures where steam and gases escape, gaining a deeper understanding of the volcanic activity that has shaped the landscape over the past four years. This is truly an experience that should be on your bucket list—don’t miss it!
